Ontario Health Profile 2015-16: Health care-associated infections
Ontarians trust that health care facilities are clean and safe places that will help them get better when they are sick. However some people are affected by health care-associated infections (HAIs) that can cause illness, complications or even death.
Prevention and control of these infections in hospitals, long-term care homes and clinics is key to keeping patients safe.
The Ontario Health Profile (OHP) explores innovative approaches that visualize public health data and engages users to accelerate population health monitoring.
This session will provide an overview of innovative approaches being used to visualize public health data and engage health professionals to accelerate population health monitoring. Specifically, the session will showcase the new HAI story that has been created for the Ontario Health Profile, including both a “primer” infographic as well as a more detailed interactive web report with local level data.
Presenters: Camille Achonu and Jeremy Herring
Camille Achonu is an epidemiologist with an extensive background in public health focusing on communicable diseases. She has over 10 years of experience working at hospital, municipal, provincial and federal levels. At Public Health Ontario, she specializes in healthcare associated infections and is responsible for coordinating Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) related activities within the Infection Prevention and Control Team.
Jeremy Herring is an epidemiologist with the Informatics department in the Knowledge Services division at PHO. His work at PHO includes being a part of the Ontario Health Profile project team developing infographics and interactive web-based reports on key public health stories, producing interactive dashboards using core public health indicators for the PHO website, as well as providing scientific and technical advice to the MOHLTC and the office of the CMOH.
